Reading

Before your Charge trip we ask that you read two books: Love Has a Face: Mascara, a Machete and One Woman's Miraculous Journey with Jesus in Sudan. Be sure to pay special attention how loving can often look differently than what we'd think.  Love Has a Face   The second book is, Rooted: The Hidden Places Where God Develops You, by Banning Liebscher.  Rooted

Recommend Vaccinations

It's likely you will be exposed to new bacterias during your time traveling internationally. Here are some vaccinations we recommend receiving or bringing up to date, prior to your trip to help prepare your body.

  • Covid - 19 (Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson’s Janssen)

  • Hepatitis A

  • Hepatitis B (If time does not allow you to get both, Hepatitis A is more important because it is most easily passed on in Asia.)

  • DTP - Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis

  • MMR- Measles, Mumps, Rubella

  • Optional: Rabies and Japanese Encephalitis

  • Yellow fever

Clothing

The weather on your Charge trip can range widely. Remember, you'll be able to buy clothes where the locals buy clothes, so if you don't have the right type of clothes, chances are you'll be able to buy something that will work at the local market. A good general rule is that synthetic clothes are more practical than cotton shirts and jeans. They weigh less, are easier to pack, and dry out more quickly.

Backpack

For most Charge trips, having a good trekking pack will be really important. As a general rule, a good backpack is not something you want to skimp on. You’ll probably want a large pack; 55-80 liters. Kelty makes great backpacks and they offer lifetime warranty on all their packs. Osprey also has a large variety of packs, promoting unmatched comfort and lifetime warranty. Be sure to include a backpack cover if there's a chance you'll be out in the rain. You may have to purchase it separately. Your pack will go with you everywhere! Choose carefully.  Kelty Coyote 80 Pack   Kelty Rain Cover  Osprey Atmos 65 AG  Osprey Rain Cover

Personal Medication

If you regularly take medication or have any medical condition, be sure to have 1 month supply on hand, and inform us about your condition PRIOR to arrival in South America/Malaysia.

This is our recommendation. If you’d like to carry more/less, it’s up to you.
